17U CHAMPIONSHIPS TEAM
 
Conejo Oaks 17U Championships Team - A club team organized for players from 16-17 years old to compete in the USA Baseball 17U Championships in June In Arizona.  USA Baseball will select at least 30 players (1995 birthdates or later) from the 17U Championships to attend the 17U National Team Development Program (NTDP) at a TBD date (ideally overlapping with 15U National Team Trials and Training) in Cary, NC.  The exact details of the NTDP are being finalized, but we are creating a comprehensive, all expenses paid, week long experience at our National Training Complex that expands on the National Team Trials experience.  It will include elite level instruction by National Team coaches and notable USA Baseball alumni focusing on developing the player's individual skillset and serve as a gateway to competing on future 18U National Teams.

GAME SUMMARIES OF THE 16U CHAMPIONSHIPS WEST TOURNAMENT

Game #1 Rox Baseball 4Conejo Oaks 0
The Conejo Oaks faced a tuff pitcher in San Moore of Orange County who no hit the Oaks in their first game of pool play. Despite the lack of offense Oaks pitching staff held Rox baseball to two hits and one earned run. Strong pitching performances by Ezra Lupoli (Simi Valley HS), Kevin Lewallyn (Chaminade HS), and Michael Silva (West Ranch HS).

Game #2 Southern California Vipers 7Conejo Oaks 8
The Conejo Oaks rallied late in their second pool play game beating the Vipers 8-7. The Oaks had strong hitting performances from Cody Ramer of Simi Valley HS who went 2 for 4 scoring two runs, Matt Higginbotham of Moorpark HS went 2 for 3 scoring two runs, and Sean Houlihan of Moorpark HS went 3 for 4 with 3 RBI. Winning pitchers was Nick Vigo of Simi Valley HS.

Game #3 Utah Green Baseball 1 Conejo Oaks 8
After a slow defensive start and the bats not yet working for Conejo Oaks, the offense began to roll by scoring 8 runs on 14 hits and a strong pitching performances from Garret Gooding of Hart HS (4 innings) and Bryan Marberry of Chaminade HS (3 shutout inngs). Every Oaks player had at least one hit with Nick Lovullo of Newbury Park HS supplying two hits and three stolen bases.

Game #4 Southern California Cardinals 6 Conejo Oaks 14
After the first round of pool play the Conejo Oaks received a seeding of #16 of 72 teams, to begin the first round of the playoffs. They matched up with number #17 seed Southern California Cardinals of Ventura County. The Oaks scored 6 runs in the 3rd inning with additional runs being scored in the 4th and 6th adding up to 14 runs scored on 15 hits. The winning pitcher was Michael Silva of West Ranch HS who improved to 2-0 on the Tournament.

Game #5 Hard 90 Baseball 2 Conejo Oaks 7
During the second game of the second round pool play the Conejo Oaks faced Hard 90 Baseball of Sacramento. A well played game by both teams found the two teams tied going into the 5th inning 2-2. In the bottom of the 6th innings Moorpark HS outfielder put the game away with a three run home run to give the Oaks a 5-2 lead. Starting pitcher Matt Higginbotham threw six strong innings holding Hard 90 to 1 hit and striking out 8 along the way. Higginbotham also added two hits and 2 rbi.

After a 4-1 start in the tournament the Conejo Oaks Advanced to the single elimination tournament as the #6 seed of the 32 teams who advanced. The Oaks drew number #27 seed California Quakes out of Rancho Cucamonga. The Oaks were led by a strong pitching performance from Scott Kerrigan of Saugus HS who threw 5 strong innings allowing only 5 hits with 6 strikeouts. The offense was led by Simi Valley HS’s Cody Ramer who went 3 for 3 with 3 stolen bases and Cole Rutherford of Chaminade who had two hits including a triple in the 4th inning driving in three runs.

In the second round of the elimination tournament the Oaks started of the first inning committing four errors and giving up four runs. Despite the lack luster start on defense, the offenses responded by scoring nine runs in the bottom half of the first inning giving them a five run lead. With the defense finally on track Garrett Gooding of Hart HS continued to shut down the stars pitching five strong innings. The offense was led by Newbury Park HS’s Nick Lovullo who went 3 for 3 driving in four runs along with strong hitting performances from Moorpark’s Sean Houlihan and Matt Higginbotham both with two hits and Simi Valley’s Cody Ramer drawing three walks stealing for bags.

Games #8 Quarter FinalsThe Show 2012 3Conejo Oaks 6
Conejo Oaks advanced for the third year in a row to the quarter finals facing The Show 2012 of Tucson Arizona. The game was dead lock at 2 apiece until Moorpark’s Sean Houlihan hit hits third homerun of the tournament with a grand slam blast over the left center field wall securing the Oaks trip to their second semi final in two years. The Oaks went for a third time in six days starting pitcher Michael Siva of West Ranch High School who threw five strong innings taking his tournament record to 3-0.  Kevin Lewallyn of Chaminade and Justin Cana of Agoura HS spelled Silva in relief and completed the final two innings sending the Oaks onto the Semi Final.

Game #9 Semi-FinalsPlacentia Mustangs 3Conejo Oaks 13
Advancing to the Semi-Finals seemed to be a large task for Conejo Oaks facing a strong #3 seed Placentia Mustangs. With pitching being stretched, the Oaks turned to left hander Nick Vigo of Simi Valley High. Vigo pitched five strong innings and the Conejo Oaks bats on fire with 12 hits and 13 runs Conejo Oaks advanced to the Final for the second time in two seasons. The Oaks offense was led by catcher Patrick Roxbury who went 4 for 4 and drove in three runs along with a 1 for 2 performances from Joe Christian who hit a bases loaded triple in the 5th inning.  Oaks reliever Ezra Lupoli of Simi Valley threw two shut out innings to put the Conejo Oaks back into the Championship.

In the Championship game, Conejo Oaks turned to Moorpark’s Matt Higginbotham who would face the #1 seed Rawlings Elite. Rawlings Elite was a team made up of players from all over the country including Florida, Texas, Arizona, and California. Higginbotham’s performance was incredible facing a line-up of high school all-stars. He pitched five strong innings in 110 degree weather giving up only four hits and striking out 6 Rawlings Elite hitters. Higginbotham would finish the tournament with a 2-0 record also providing nine hits for then tournament. Conejo Oaks offense was led by Moorpark’s Sean Houlihan who went 2 for 3 with a double and Newbury Park’s Joe Christian who added two more hits including a ground rule double in the third and Nick Lovullo who had two hits as well. The Conejo Oaks finished the tournament with a 9-1 record
