AMATEUR BASEBALL DEVELOPMENT GROUP

The Amateur Baseball Development Group (ABDG) is a non-profit foundation with all proceeds supporting amateur baseball in Southern California.

In a short time THE ABDG FOUNDATION IS PROUD TO HAVE:  revived baseball leagues, built facilities, donated to 34 high school baseball programs throughout Southern California, sponsored youth clinics, High School and Collegiate All Star Games, a 16U Championships team, a Connie Mack Team and a Collegiate Team.  Most recently, the ABDG is continuing to raise funds to finish the construction of a new baseball field at Conejo Creek Park in the City of Thousand Oaks.

The main fundraising event for the Amateur Baseball Development Group  is the annual Mike Scioscia Charity Golf Tournament & Auction. The ABDG has made a difference thanks to our sponsors and all who support the golf tournament.  We will be forever grateful to the Angels Organization, Howard's Appliance and Flat Screen Superstores, and American Technologies.

The ABDG believes the baseball experience is one that should be enjoyed by families for generations to come.

On behalf of Mike Scioscia, Randy Riley, Kevin Muno, Roger Lazar and the Amateur Baseball Development Group, we would like to thank you for your generosity and support.  Your participation is giving our youth options and direction while enjoying our great pastime.  Thanks for helping our young men realize their potential.

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE TEAMS, PLAYERS, AND EVENTS OF ABDG...
  • ABDG hosted their 6th Annual Mike Scioscia Charity Golf Tournament at Moorpark Country Club in Moorpark, CA on 11/9/09.  The tournament was our best one ever thanks to all of our sponsors and players.  To learn more and register for the event go to our Golf Tournament link.

  • ABDG’s Conejo Oaks Collegiate team had another outstanding season finishing second in the California Collegiate League and qualifying for the NBC Summer Collegiate World Series held in Wichita, Kansas in August.  The team finished the tournament 3-2 tied for 4th place with their rivals from the California Collegiate League, the Santa Barbara Foresters.  The Foresters won the event last year winning their 2nd national title.  To learn more go to our Teams/League link.

  • ABDG and the California Collegiate League (CCL) held their 1st annual collegiate all-star game at the Urban Youth Academy in Compton, California on July13th.  The event allowed players from all the CCL teams to showcase their talents in front of major league scouts in a scout day/all-star game format.  Fox Sports West taped the game and telecasted it multiple times on Fox Sports West and Primeticket.  To learn more go to the California Collegiate League website.

  • ABDG’s Conejo Oaks 16U Championships team went to the 16U Championships in Arizona to compete against 71 teams from the west in late June.  The team went to the Championship game and fell short in their bid to win the event for the first time in the 6 years that ABDG has been sending a team.  However, it was an exciting year for coach Frank Mutz and the team.  To learn more go to our Teams/Leagues link.

  • ABDG, The Urban Youth Academy and the Major League Scouting Bureau held their 2nd Annual Southwest Future All-Star Series on June 5th, 6th, and 7th at the Urban Youth Academy in Compton, CA.  The event was a great success giving 80 of the best High School players from the southwest the chance to showcase their talents in front of Major League and Collegiate Scouts.  All of the players run through a combine Friday with four teams of 20 players competing in games on Saturday and Sunday with the final game on Sunday being the Championship game that is televised on LA36.  To learn more go to our All-Star Games link.

  • ABDG and Mike Scioscia hosted their annual Mike Scioscia/Howards Youth Baseball Clinic on April 25th at Angels Stadium.  ABDG was proud to have Howard's Appliance and Flat Screen Superstores as our sponsor again this year.  The clinic was free to all and was an excellent opportunity to learn from and meet players and coaches at the major league level.  The Angels organization was very generous to allow us to host the event down on their field.  Angel's coaches Mike Scioscia, Ron Roenicke, Orlando Mercado and Alfredo Griffin, Angel's players Robb Quinlan, Brandon Wood, Jose Arrendondo and Maicer Izturis and Angel's sportscasters Terry Smith and Jose Mota came out to help make the event very special for the kids.

ABDG would like to extend our condolenses to the Rory Markas family.  Rory Markas was a true supporter and friend of ABDG and he will be greatly missed.
